Many of our co-chairs over the past few months showed growing interest in learning more about the Uyghur Muslims, their community and their current situation in China.

While we were not able to meet in person, we decided to take advantage of the lockdown and we organised an event for our co-chairs on this delicate topic. Rahima Mahmut, the UK Representative for the World Uyghur Congress, joined us for what turned out to be an extremely insightful and emotional event. She shared her personal story with us and walked us through the hardship of the Uyghur people.

It was sometimes difficult to listen but, at Nisa-Nashim, we truly believe that learning about a problem is the first step towards action and that, in holding a space to talk about people who are being persecuted for their faith, we are  honouring them.

To follow the video of part of the event, so that all of you can listen to Rahima.
